Reload

Robbie Jess aka Reload is a Belfast-based DJ and Producer with deep roots in the local underground scene, known for bringing energy, soul, and serious drum work to every set. His journey started in 1993 after being inspired by Dr. S Gachet’s set at Hellraiser. That night sparked a lifelong obsession with breakbeats and DJ culture.

Originally taking inspiration from techno at iconic Belfast nights like Shake Ya Brain, Choice, and Shine, Reload was always immersed in a wide spectrum of sounds — from hip-hop to jungle to drum & bass. A pivotal moment came in 1998 after attending a show featuring the original Calibre lineup. That experience led to a creative partnership with Stu (SBC10), and soon after, connections with other local legends like Judge Dredd, Kato, and the Solid crew.

Together, they played across respected nights such as Solid and Drumology, and held down a drum & bass room residency at the Super Shine events in Queen’s University Belfast. These years helped shape Reload’s identity as both a DJ and a champion of the local DNB movement.

As a co-founder of the influential Cappo Regime, Reload became a key figure in pushing the sound across Northern Ireland and beyond. His sets are defined by a refusal to be boxed into subgenres — instead blending deep, rolling drums with soulful textures, driving basslines and always with a focus on flow and connection.

Reload has played sets across Ireland, the UK, and Australia, sharing the stage with legends like Goldie, Simon Bassline Smith, Calibre, and London Elektricity.

After a few years off the radar, Reload has reignited his passion — refreshing his crates and reconnecting with Stu to launch CypherSound Cartel, a new project built on collaboration and dedication to championing drum & bass in Northern Ireland and beyond.

With his first solo release on Cyphersound Cartel Recordings imminent and working on a range of projects with SBC10 and other local artists, exciting times lie ahead for Reload.
